COMM 229: Disney buys Marvel
I know this happened a while ago, but I have always wanted to get my two cents into this subject and maybe let some readers indulge themselves into this crazy phenomenon. First off, yes, it is true that Disney has bought Marvel. When I first read about this I was shocked, nonetheless. I couldn't believe my eyes; Disney, the company that is responsible for Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck.....bought Marvel, the company responsible for Spiderman, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. How do these things mesh together? What is going to happen to Universal Studios in Orlando? That is a fantastic amusement park, and if they take away those rides, I'm going to be devastated. They have one of my favorite roller-coasters The Incredible Hulk, and they have the Spiderman ride, which is also an amazing amount of fun. There is a lot of things that are in question regarding Disney's recent mega transaction. Disney has said that the movies that are already in production will stay with those studios but in a few years, Disney will be the sole distributor. Oh boy...are we going to see Mickey Mouse in the next Spiderman movie? Yikes! And, what does this do for the industries and the media outlets? This has a huge impact on the movie studios. Disney already owns a lot of things such as, ABC, ESPN, Miramax, Touchstone etc. It's just crazy to to think that the "house of mouse" now owns a comic book conglomerate. What is the world coming to?

COMM 229: Free media and the Tiger Woods scandal
In the latest chapter we read for my COMM 229 class, it discussed media debates, concentrating on free media. The topic of free media was referring to is media free? It centered on if we get unbiased information or biased. It is apparent that the information we receive for our news outlets is generally biased, leaning towards a particular side, whether it generally be conservative or liberal. We do not get to view news outlets that are unbiased anymore; almost all news sources that I have encountered show some type of bias. It has come to this because, usually each news source must choose which side they favor, but not make it obvious. They then must put their own spin on it, to give their station or website it's own separate identity. I also wanted to focus on a particular example in the news today that is being swarmed.
The whole Tiger Woods situation pretty much baffles me. Nobody really knows what is going on, but we kind of get an idea that Woods probably cheated on his wife. It just amazes me on how the media is covering the situation. They are swarming like flys! I mean, it's kind of no surprise; they hear that one of the greatest golfers in the world has been recently involved in a car accident, and a possible domestic dispute with his wife, so the media is definitely going to be swarming. He is for one, who has really never been involved in any type of media scandal, so what a perfect way to get right into it. I kind of think that the media should leave him and family alone, but they won't do it because they want to get ratings boosted, and it's a really hot topic right now, so why aren't they going to put their two cents in, right? The interesting thing, is what bias they show towards the situation and how they spin it to the media (free media? You betcha!) It's not exactly free, because if it were, there would be no bias to it. I also think it's interesting that after one alleged woman has come out and said she had an affair with Woods, obviously other women have come out and said they have too, just to gain themselves some fame. It's typical, like in any other situation that you can think of. Think about it...

COMM 229: Christmas music
I know this doesn't exactly tie to the chapter we read this week on globalization, but I just realized that you can make a connection between Christmas music and media studies, whether it is consumerism, industry, or perhaps globalization if you really think about it.
I would like to start off by saying they started playing the Christmas music on the radio pretty early this year. They started last week and it was not even Thanksgiving yet! I'm talking about a particular radio station in Boston (105.7 WROR). However, now that I have been listening to the radio station the past couple days, I can't stop listening. There is something about Christmas music that just makes me very happy and very excited. Maybe it's the fact that Christmas is coming up, that could be it. I also think it doesn't really feel like the holiday season is approaching; I generally always feel like this every year. It just seems so surreal that Christmas is once again upon us. There is just something special about Christmas music I think. It has this magic appeal to it. I think it's special because we only hear it once a year, so when we hear it, we can't do anything but feel happy. That's how I feel at least.
Now, I think you can definitely connect Christmas music to media studies. I think it can be tied to globalization because we hear different music that is from different cultures, and we hear music that touches on different aspects of the holiday. It allows us to broaden our horizons on music so we can learn new songs and have an open mind about Christmas music as a whole. It can most definitely be tied to consumers..I mean, that's a no brainer. I'm sure one of the reasons we hear Christmas music so early on the radio now is because they are reminding us that that start of the holiday season is fast approaching and it is encouraging people to get ready to do their shopping. I personally try to stay away from the fact that Christmas is becoming or already is a predominantly consumer and economic holiday, and more center on the family aspect of it, and being able to see all my family. That is my favorite part. It makes Christmas that much more special for me.

WWF/WWE
I have to admit, I'm a bit of a geek. I used to be a big fan of professional wrestling; I used to religiously watch it every week and was glued to the TV set as these men (and sometimes women) would fight until they could not fight any longer. It looked so REAL, but of course, that was the point. Even after I realized everything was fake including the plots which were storylines, I was still glued to that TV. I couldn't stop watching because it was extremely entertaining. It was always known as the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) then later became known as the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Professional reigned supreme when it was known as the WWF and it was known as the Attitude Era. That was the best days of wrestling for me at least. My friends and I grew up watching wrestling and we all had our favorite wrestlers and the ones we despised. My favorite and still is to this day is The Rock (Dwayne Johnson). He was not only a great wrestler, he knew how to make the fans go nuts. He was the best on the microphone. His talk smack was the stuff of legend. He was just hilarious, and maybe someday if he ever came back to the world of wrestling, I would possibly watch it again. With that said, I really don't watch much wrestling anymore. It's became a giant soap opera, and the storylines are just terrible. John Cena is the champ...blah blah blah. Been there done that. It gets annoying when the same guys hold the championship, besides The Undertaker because he's just one of a kind. I could probably go on for hours talking about wrestling and my days of watching it, but I don't want to go on too long. My mom used to hate it when my brother and I watched wrestling. She was always against it, and didn't allow us to watch it for the longest time.
I still watch clips of wrestling, but only on YouTube, and I generally watch clips that are from when I used to watch wrestling. When The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and wrestlers like that reigned supreme. Man do I miss those days...

COMM 229: Documentary and Reality TV
I don't watch much reality television. I don't find it amusing; I do not think it's entertaining because I think it's just too skewed and it's not actually real. I also view it as something that is completely farfetched; the people on reality television are way over the top and overly dramatic. I think it's cheap and everything is pitched and edited. All the storylines in reality television are made up ahead of time to get ratings and to add dramatic effect for the viewers. The producers are behind the scenes making sure that their show has the best possible outcome. I'm sure many producers already know who is going to win, or they make the person know who they should pick to boost ratings. Reality television is extremely fabricated, and I don't enjoy it at all.
Most documentaries are pretty enjoyable in my opinion. I usually enjoy watching them. However, it also depends on what documentary it is and what subject it is focused on. Any movie done by Michael Moore I will watch; not because I believe everything he says, but his movies are at least entertaining and worth to watch. I would rather watch something like that, than a documentary that is going to put me to sleep.

The Monopoly movie plot
First, before you start scratching your heads at the title of my blog, I want to assure you all that yes, they are making a movie based on the famous board game known only as Monopoly. I'm sure some of you are wondering how in the world they could make a feasible plot that could entertain millions of people. Well, I have the answer for you. My homepage that pops up when I bring up the internet is a website called www.joblo.com. Don't worry, it's not a pornographic website if any of you are thinking that. It's actually a website that is dedicated to movies of all sorts and is basically a daily online magazine that lists headlines of movie news about movies been greenlit, actors or actresses choosing roles, and pretty much anything that you could think of that is movie related. However, back to the topic at hand. I read the supposed plot for the Monopoly movie, and it's quite out there if you don't mind me saying. It's so out there that it seems that the screenwriter who wrote it had to be on something while he wrote this. I really don't want to spoil anything for you, I'd rather just post the link here and allow you to read it so you can gather your thoughts and maybe post a comment on what you think? Let me just say that that the writer's inspiration came from Alice in Wonderland (I know, right?) and it's crazy, but it actually seems feasible and seems it could actually work. Welcome to Monopoly City everyone.
Without further adieu here is the link: http://www.joblo.com/the-monopoly-plot
Have fun feasting on this!
COMM 229: Production
I just read this week's chapter which focused on production and the different aspects involved with the field. All I should say to start would be wow! I mean, I knew production at least involved pre-production, production/filming, post-production, but there is so many things that are in all those categories that it is crazy! In the fields, you would have researchers, design teams like set and art design), producers, directors, editors, you name it you got it. There is so many little things that go along with production whether it is radio, television, print, or film. Obviously, many people think of movies when they hear the word producer, but there is a producer in all four of those categories, and each one does their own little thing to make sure the product gets out into the public. I think it's fascinating that there are so many things that are involved with production, but I also am not surprised because it takes a lot of work and a lot of effort to get that product out. It allows a lot of jobs throughout the fields which is great for the economy and for anyone needing a job that is pertained to the field of work they are involved with.

Comm 229: Shattered Glass
For my Comm 229 class this week, we had to watch the movie, Shattered Glass. I thought it was a great movie, and I felt the acting was decent (most of the time when I was watching Hayden Christensen I just saw him as Anakin Skywalker; especially the scenes where he whined a lot). However, his acting was still good. He did a good job at appearing innocent and somewhat fragile with a different state of mind. I've heard and I'm one of the few that will say that I do a lot of thinking while I'm in the shower. After watching the movie, I felt that the scene where the class is applauding him then suddenly disappeared was extremely important. Then while in the shower, I realized why it was such an important and pivotal scene. During the scene, we are watching Stephen thank his teacher and thank the classmates as they are applauding him after giving his speech. He then looks back at the classroom, almost as if the camera was now his eyes and the class is empty, signifying that, the whole time it was all in his head. I then realized it was so important because when we see Stephen earlier in the movie, he's in a hotel room and some guys are partying hard and another scene he's at a conference for hackers. The point I'm trying to make is that he may have been there, but all the people around him did not exist; they were all in his head, and he pictured things happening around him. He sat there alone, scribbling made up notes as he played scenarios through his head. It really was a masterful job, to do that and to do that to such great lengths. It was a great movie, but the greatest part of all was definitely the ending.
Halo 1 (The Video Game)
I have to say, that I miss the original Halo: Combat Evolved. It was a great game, and it was one of the best games for it's time, when it came out. Then all the money it made, it sparked two more games, and now the new expansion Halo 3: ODST. But, I think the original Halo was by far the best game. I have an Xbox 36o, and luckily the first Halo is compatible with the console, so I think I will soon be buying a copy of the game and I can not wait. I felt that the levels were much better and the guns were better as well. Especially the pistol, my favorite gun of the game. It was such a powerful gun; you could easily win a match with just using that gun. It was a great game, and I can not wait until I get my hands on it again.

COMM 229: YouTube
Whenever I am bored or need something that is pertained to media, the first source is always YouTube. It allows access to numerous amounts of material that we are able to watch. It has everything you need; it has become such a huge site. It continues to grow everyday. I love watching videos on YouTube, but some videos are just out of hand. For example, one of the fan screenings we had to watch was from YouTube from the account doglover199709. All she does in her videos is dance around and lip sync and she has so many views on all of her videos. How is this possible! I'm sure some people just click on it and watch it for a couple seconds but don't watch the whole video. I was told she is one of the highest viewed subscriber's on YouTube. Ridiculous. Give me something good to watch.
Personally, I enjoy watching videos that are pertained to my liking. I like to watch videos that associate with my interests that can provide me hours with entertainment. I like watching things on the Oscars, sometimes old WWE videos, Robin Williams, music concerts, celebrity impersonations...good and funny stuff I think.
I like YouTube because it can provide me with new information that I might not yet know. It can help me broaden my horizons when it comes to opinions and ideas that I have yet to build on. It's a great source of media, and it can be heavily influential.

COMM 229: This Film is Not Yet Rated
I just watched This Film is Not Yet Rated earlier and I have to say, "Wow". I can't believe what the MPAA does and what they are responsible for. I think it is unbelievable what they do. What Jack Valenti has done to the MPAA is horrendous. He is so hypocritical on what he has said. He said, "Movie ratings do not effect box office." Absolutely wrong! I work at a movie theater and I will say that movies are absolutely effected by the rating system. Usually, PG-13 rated movies do much better than R rated movies. PG-13 movies are able to spread out to a bigger audience, while R rated movies are only viewed to 17 or older movies. He also said, "There are no secrets in Hollywood and Washington." Another wrong fact. There are plenty of secrets of course in Washington, and I'm sure there are some secrets throughout Hollywood that we are not aware of. I mean, think of what goes behind the scenes. Those are secrets! It's ridiculous what the MPAA has done over the years. They are so critical and it has come too far. Things need to be changed I think.

COMM 229: News and how it's spun
So, I had to write a paper that discussed how some news sources such as TV and the Internet use their own little spin with stories. It's so true isn't it! It seems that no matter where we go, there is no source that is unbiased. If you live in Massachusetts, like myself, you'll understand that we're very accustomed to reading articles in The Boston Globe that are generally liberal biased and heavily support Democrats. Now when there are other news sources such as...cough FOX cough cough...sorry I had something in my throat. But yes, FOX is well, FOX. They have a large reputation for being extremely conservative and heavily favoring Republicans. I know some people might argue, "Hey, the Globe does the same thing but with liberals and Democrats!" Yes this is true, HOWEVER, FOX is extremely arrogant in what they do. Many of their anchors are arrogant as well, which gives them the reputation. Bill O'Reilly for example, oh man! He is something. That's all that needs to be said. We just can't get any unbiased news now can't we? MSNBC doesn't do a terrible job at delivering unbiased news, but it does the best it can. Wherever we go, we'll hear one thing then hear another. That's just the way it is...

COMM 229: Is there any decent television anymore?
After reading a blog that I follow, "For the Fun of It", very good blog, the author talked about how there is a mis-representation of the media and about reality television. Something that I think is interesting that pertains to my opinion about television and about the author's blog, is that...Is there any really good and decent television anymore? I mean yeah, I do watch a handful of shows that I find thoroughly entertaining. Such as, Entourage, Scrubs, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Smallville, Chuck, and Community.
I know, I know...a lot of shows that I watch. However each one I find great in its own little way. Entourage is hilarious, loosely based on the life of Mark Whalberg, and it's on HBO, and usually all HBO shows seem to have some sort of magic to them. I have always been a big fan of Scrubs ever since it was on; the banter between J.D. and The Janitor or J.D. and Dr. Cox is always priceless. 30 Rock is another little gem that could be one of the funniest shows on television; Jack Donahue (Alec Baldwin) is by far the funniest character on the show, with Baldwin's hilarious deadpan humor and the way he delivers his lines are superb. The Big Bang Theory is an hilarious show that you really don't have to understand what they're saying to like it. I don't even know what they're saying half the time. They play these geniuses who are extremely smart but have no concept of social skills and do not have to talk to women. Hysterical. Smallville could be my favorite TV show right now. I have always been a big fan of the show ever since I started watching it, about 3-4 years ago. I would like to share with you, something that I'm extremely proud of, but also shows that at the time, looks like I had no life. I got into Smallville thanks to a friend, and I had never watched the show but I bought Season 1 on DVD. I ended up finishing the season in about a day and a half. Also, if you know the show, and watch it, you know that at the end of each season, they give you a ridiculous cliff hanger and makes you want more. Thus, I bought Seasons 2-5. Now here comes the good part. I not only watched Seasons 2-5, but finished Seasons 1-5 in about a week and a half. To me, that's just flat out ridiculous and astonishing. How did I do that you ask.. I have no idea, but I did. I have yet to meet someone who can top that, because I still have yet to find that person. Keep in mind, that is over 100 hour long episodes in a week and a half. Yikes! Community is a new show that aired this year, starring Joel McHale and Chevy Chase, and I find it entertaining. Now notice how I did not mention the show Chuck. I did so because I would like to save it for the next paragraph.
Now, if you haven't seen it, Chuck is actually a very good show. It's witty, funny, it has plenty of suspense and drama, and it's just downright fun. It has been on for two seasons, and the second season, I thought it was great. They were trying to add more story angles and arcs to keep the show flowing. I guess the only slight problem the show had was some below average ratings. Now I know that television networks rely heavily on ratings, and if a show was falling off the edge, they would cut ties with it to hopefully salvage the network and time slot. However, if you take a look at Arrested Development, it was one of the best shows in years, maybe the best comedy since Seinfeld, and we all know how hard it was to find a new Seinfeld. But the show had a cult following and had so many fans that pleaded for the show not to be cancelled. It won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series! But, FOX, being the way they are, cancelled the show and left people to mourn the loss of a great show. Now we have Chuck, which is not as good as Arrested Development, but is still very funny. It has a huge following of fans that love the show and pleaded with NBC to not cut ties, but was never up for any awards. Luckily they greenlit a 3rd season which will air in March of 2010.
But here's where television goes wrong. It shouldn't always matter about the damn ratings for shows. Why on Earth should that always matter. Shouldn't the following of the fans of certain shows be a reason to keep a show on the air? It's a shame that it's only about ratings. It's flawed because networks cancel have canceled great shows in the past because they suffered poor ratings. Maybe it will change someday where we the fans do have a say as to what television shows have a chance of staying on the air. I wish we had the power to vote shows off the air. There's plenty of shows that shouldn't be on the air, I just don't want to get started. I've been talking and venting too long, and don't want to keep you guys reading further, I'll see ya when I see ya.
For my COMM 229 Foundations of Communication class, we had to read a chapter concerning Stereotypes and how the media perceives race and gender. I found it very interesting because it's true how today's media twists certain misconceptions about race and gender. It can be real awful to witness what they say on television.
After we read the chapter, we had to find a quote that really stuck out to us and elaborate on it; we then had to write about it on our class Discussion Board, but I would like to let my readers in on the quote and elaborate more on it.
The quote is by Christine Odone from her article, "Sexy kids" in New Statesman. Odone writes, "The pink cotton T-shirt's lettering reads: "So many boys, so little time." It's an odd line, which usually raises a smile. But...this T-shirt is a '5-6 years' size...What about the thong for 7 year olds...or the padded bra for a 9-year old?"
This quote is a very interesting one because I feel that it is true regarding what Odone says. I do not like when I see little children wearing provocative clothing because it can be offensive and the children most likely have no idea what the saying means. If I saw a young girl around the age of 7 or 8 wearing a T-shirt that said, "So many boys, so little time", I don't know what I would do. I don't understand why children are wearing clothing like that. I was used to wearing cartoonish shirts or something neutral that didn't represent or mean anything offensive. I was wearing T-shirts that had the X-Men characters on it, or shirts that had cartoon characters from television shows. I guess it shows that how much time has changed in so little time. I'm only 21, so it was only 10 years ago when I was wearing clothing like that. It's amazing how much the style of clothing has changed over the years. Seeing a mother buying her young daughter a padded bra or thong is just disgusting. She is too young to be wearing articles of clothing like that.
It also has to deal with the fact that children try their very best to fit in and act "cool" when they are in Elementary School or Middle School. It's sad, that wearing these clothes might be one of the underlining reasons to give them a chance to fit in. I remember when I was a kid and I had to wear good clothing to help make a good impression on other people, but I didn't have to wear provocative or "sexy" clothing like the kids are wearing now. It's sad that they are forced to wear clothing that include meanings that they are probably clueless about. They just wear them because they think the shirts look good. First impressions are crucial when you are a kid, and I understand that. But, instead of trying to blend in with this crowd, why not stand out and rebel against them by doing something that's against the norm. Do something that will make you stand out but in a good way, rather than wearing ridiculous clothing that will make older kids or adults turn their heads in disgust, when in fact you are completely innocent because you're just doing what all the "cool" kids are doing. Take the advice that my mother gave to me when I was a kid. Don't be like them, be yourself, because if you follow them every step of the way, you'll never discover who you are.
In 10 years, we'll see what kids are wearing now; but from what they're wearing now, and how the style of clothing continues to change, it's a little frightening when I think about where our society will be in 10 years. Who knows...

Friday September 18, 2009 (CSI Miami)
Well, sorry I have not been updating my blog lately. Shame on me! At least the good news is that really nothing too exciting has been going on with me as of late. I went to Boston with some friends a couple weeks ago -- that was hoot! It was a fantastic time, and now being 21, it's even better. The Patriots won last Monday (even though Buffalo probably should have won, but they lost the game for themselves)
For my COMM229 class -- Foundations of Media Studies, I had to read a chapter on Narrative and watch an episode of CSI: Miami. If you asked me to watch an episode of a TV Show or watch a movie for homework, sign me up! I've never really watched the show, I used to watch the original CSI from time to time, but never got into it. However, I did enjoy the episode that I had to watch. The episode related to the chapter we had to read for homework. The chapter discussed how narrative takes place throughout movies, television shows, and the news as well. It discussed some theories which were definitely interesting. Some theories that involve first person which has a voice-over of a character narrating what is going on. Also there is the third person narrative which someone else narrates the story. Other things included narration such as, "Once upon a time..." or "happily ever after...". In general, I definitely enjoyed reading the chapter; usually whenever I read for college, I find a tough time grasping the material or having a hard time staying focused. I usually find myself daydreaming or starting to fall asleep. That used to happen to me all the time; after I switched majors to Communications, I may have possibly found the right major where I can actually read a textbook. *Knock on wood!*
Hopefully as the semester progresses, I will able to read more and more and it will just become easier for me. That's what I'm at least hoping for! I think tonight, I might be seeing The Informant with my girlfriend, so if I'm back on soon, I'll let you know how the movie is. I hope it's good. Other than that, I'll leave you at that, and talk to ya when I talk to ya. Ciao!

Just starting blogging recently, get to blog to earn points!
So for my Foundations of Media Studies class (COMM 229) I have to write a blog and somehow relate it to some type of media that relates to the class or directly mention the class in general. That seems pretty easy, since I'm now getting used to blogging and I love movies and the media, so this should be fun and interesting. For the class, I wrote on the online discussion board and I will be taking our 1st quiz shortly. I'm not sure if I should read any pages in our book before I take the quiz because I'm not sure what the quiz will be covering. Other than that, the class seems good and as long as I keep up with the work I should be good.
Speaking of blogging, I'm trying to decide if I should start keeping you readers updated with any goals I have in mind so you can follow my progress. I think one goal I want to keep you intrigued with is that I'm starting to gather ideas for developing a Screenplay. It's something that has always been in the back of my mind, and I like to think if I set my mind to it, I can create one. If you have any ideas or advice, please don't hesitate to let me in on any inside information that you might hold. I have a couple ideas as of now, but nothing set in stone yet. Let me know what you think!
Work.. ugh!
I got a message from one of my bosses today while I was at one of the two theaters I work at, and she informed me that our VP told her to cut me (not fire me) but take me off the schedule for tomorrow night (Friday) and this Saturday day because I have been working too many hours lately. I have been working around 60+ hours a week for the past month or so. It's just interesting that our VP did it now rather than earlier. I've been doing the same schedule for a month. I was confused because as of tomorrow, my hours will be trimming down to 31 hours. I'm just confused but oh well. I don't want to vent too much about it because I don't want to get in trouble. But that's pretty much my work situation at the moment. It's frustrating at stressful as of now, but I just have to fight through it!
Thursday September 3, 2009
Well.... let me just tell you all that today has been one crazy day. Today was my first day of classes and my classes went well. However, there is one little piece of information that I all let you in on. Today, out of the 4 years I've been in school was the first time that I've missed a class on the first day of classes!! Why on Earth did I do such a thing? Well that might be because I didn't get home from work until around 12:30 and didn't get to bed until 1:30. So I was only able to get 4 1/2 hours of sleep. Definitely not a good idea since today was the first day. I probably would have been better off not going to bed at all! However, I've tried that in the past, and I've come so close, but then I fall asleep (what a surprise!). I set my alarm to 6:00 A.M. and I did wake up originally. But being the idiot that I am I shut off my alarm and lied in bed and low and behold, I fell back to sleep. I woke up again, and I had that same feeling that Dane Cook once said in a comedy bit: "You just get up and your like I'm late I'm late..crap!" Well, I can tell you all I had that feeling once I woke up. I woke up and all I said was "crap" as I was reaching to check the time on my iPHone. Figures that the time was 7:54 A.M., just minutes before my first class was about to start. I quickly jumped out of bed and threw on some clothes and brushed my teeth, and threw on a baseball cap to hide my ridiculous bed hair. If I had decided to not wear a hat, some people might of ran away screaming or brought a weapon because they probably would have thought that some animal was on top of my head.
Fast forward about ten minutes, and I'm sitting at a table waiting for my first class to get out because I wanted to speak to the Professor and apologize for missing the very first class of the semester. As the class filed out, I made my way into the classroom while I waited for the last remaining students to exit the room. I spoke to the Professor and told him the honest truth: that I woke up late, missed the class, and sincerely apologized. Luckily the Professor was very kind about it and told me not too worry and it wasn't a problem. He then handed me the syllabus and a sheet outlining the guidelines for a project due at the end of the month. He seemed like a really nice guy and I promised him I'd be in class on Tuesday. I better be there or else!
My next class, Foundations of Communication was practically over in 5 minutes. Our actual Professor was not able to attend because the stand in Professor told the class that he was away at a Conference in Norway! I really wasn't able to get a feel for how the class will be this semester, since all we did was get handed the class syllabus and taken attendance and we were free to go. I'll fast forward about another hour, because you don't want to hear the boring stuff!
My last class of the day, Communications Studies Theory seemed decent. It lasted almost the entire timeframe. The Professor told us the class will be mostly based on theories and such. What a surprise! She told us that the class is pretty much the oddball of the whole Communications Department, with the class mostly being similar to Philosophy. As long as it's not similar to my old Philosophy class whatsoever, I'm all set! But the class as a whole seemed good. I don't really want to bother all you readers with the details, because that's boring! After she went through all the guidelines, she had us talk a bit about ourselves and tell the class something interesting about ourselves. The thing I chose was that I'm starting to gather information to begin writing a Screenplay. I really am! I've been wanting to write one for so long now. I will probably blog about that project a lot to keep everyone updated. Any thoughts or advice is always welcome! The class seemed very interested about me writing a Screenplay, I always enjoy that. One of the students just said, "That's tight." That definitely made my day at school. After that I went to Student Accounts to gather some money for books, then bought the necessary books, blah blah blah, nothing fun. That's pretty much my first day of school in a nutshell.. however a quite big one!

Wednesday September 2, 2009
This is my very first time created a blog and posting, so bear with me now. Work has been pretty tough lately; I'm working these ridiculous hours for the past month, and I have definitely been feeling the burn out effects lately. Our work schedules go from Friday-Thursday and I'm scheduled for 72 hours this week. Yikes!! I've worked pretty much all day everyday, especially this week. My shifts are 12:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Rough stuff! However, there is an upside...with all these hours I've been working recently, I've been getting some great paychecks. It makes me smile usually and it helps keep my sanity. With all the hours I've been working, I was just recently able to buy a brand new MacBook Pro, and I'm absolutely loving it! Easily the best laptop I've ever had. It can do so many things and it's lightning fast.
My work schedule will be diminishing as of this Friday, and I'm very excited about it. I will no longer be working those gruesome 12 hour days. I really can't take it anymore. It's definitely getting the best of me. However, as of this Friday, I will no longer be working everyday, and my usual 60+ hours a week will disappear and magically become about 30 hours a week. A much better improvement. It will allow me to focus more on my school work and get good grades (I hope!).
I'm going to have Sundays and Mondays off every week from school/work. The main reason I wanted those specific days off is because I will be able to watch the Patriots' games! Going to be fantastic.
My school schedule seems pretty good right now. With classes starting tomorrow, I'm actually looking forward to it because 1.) I feel like I'm finally in the major I want to be in and taking the classes I'm interested in (I recently switched from a History major to Communications major last semester) and 2.) I'm glad my hours at work will fade away. I've been looking forward to this for a while!
But I hope tomorrow goes well and whatnot, but since this is my first blog, I decided to make it terribly long and catch you guys up on everything (Sorry!!)
But I'll get off this thing and let you know tomorrow how my first day of classes went! Senior Year! Ah!
